Look at examples of Film Noirs (list here) from the 40's and 50's and take screen shots of elements discussed in Thursday's Lecture. These screenshots can go onto your blogs with an explanation of the element it is illustrating.

Rain-soaked streets:
The dark, shadowy small town with strip back lighting to create the atmosphere.
Phantom Lady(1944)

The Femme Fatale: The opposite of the nurturing, caring woman. She always looks perfect, the dress, the hair, the make-up with the very red lips that shows devious and she is often the killer.
Out of the Past (1947)
Shadows: The element of shadow from strip back lighting to create hard silouhette edges.


 The male Protagnist:

 Narration:The beginning scene is narrated to the audience with voiceover, the narrater sets the story for the audience and takes us back to the past with flashbacks and is described with voiceovers.

 Claustrophobic mise-en-scene:Low key lighting, dark and shadowy to portray the twisted and complex film structure.

Criminal Underworld: The presence of a criminal pointing a gun but in the Film Noir era, the crimes exposed in the films should be perform in a way and punished to avoid imitations from audience.
